Image Graphics Libraries Download and Installation
What do these programs do?
Graphics libraries are required to enable gLucifer, which downloads with your copy of Underworld, to save rendered images in different formats. You only need to download and install the program which corresponds to the desired image output format (png is the default in all template xml files contained in the Viewports directory).
Information on Graphics Libraries for Image Output
Click on the links or read below for further information on each image format:
- PNG - the default in all template InputFiles
- JPEG
- TIFF - should come already installed on Linux
- PPM - a base level image format. It's size, in bytes, is approximately 3 times the number of pixels.
Downloading and Installing libpng, libjpeg or libtiff
Click on the link below (where applicable) for further instructions on downloading and installing each program:
- PNG - libpng
- JPEG - libjpeg
- TIFF - libtiff
- PPM - no additional software (libraries or header files) is required for the PPM image format.
Creating Image Outputs
An output format must be added to the xml file (that you create that calls a template xml file from the Viewports directory) to create the image using the library of your choice. gLucifer will render a window at each 'dump' timestep in your calculation. Each time it is rendered, the window will be saved as seperate file in the format that you specify in your InputFile.
Please refer to the Underworld User Manual for further information on Viewports and examples of how each type of output file format can be specified in your xml file.-- Wendy Mason - 27 March 2006
